Philadelphia Museum of Art Address

The Philadelphia Museum of Art is one of the largest art museums in the country. It was established alongside the Centennial Exposition in 1876 and was originally named the Pennsylvania Museum and School of Industrial Art. The museum opened in 1877.

Though the building for the museum was fine, it was not located near the majority of the population. Therefore, a new building began construction in 1919. This building was constructed at 2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway and is the current home of the museum.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art has over 225,000 objects as well as 200 galleries that span 2,000 years. There are up to 20 special exhibits on display at the museum every year that draw more than 800,000 visitors. Some of the bigger exhibits have brought people from all over the country and even around the world.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art became iconic for its role in the Rocky movies that featured the main character running up the front steps during his training. Many visitors run up the steps in imitation of the movies. The museum steps are known to many as the "Rocky Steps."

Open: All year long, except major holidays.

Hours: Main and Perelman Buildings open Tuesday - Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM. Main Building is open Friday evenings until 8:45 PM. Perelman Building closed Friday evening.
