Washington Monument will be closed for 18 months, while earthquake repairs are being made.

You cannot go inside the Washington Monument during repairs. You can still enjoy viewing the monument.

During repair work, scaffolding will be built around the Washington Monument.

In 1787 as President of the Constitutional Convention, he helped guide the deliberations to form a government that has lasted for more than 200 years. Two years later he was unanimously elected the first President of the United States.
