Las Vegas Hotel AdviceLooking for a hotel in Las Vegas. Before choosing a hotel, find a great location. With so many spectacular hotels and sights along Las Vegas Boulevard (known as the "Strip"), the best way to enjoy Las Vegas Boulevard is by walking. We have selected three Action Corners dominated by popular hotels. Pick any hotel near these street corners and you can easily walk around and enjoy the sights and attractions. As we discuss these Action Corners look at our Hotel Map on the left side menu to to find what hotels are located there. Spring Mountain Road and Las Vegas BoulevardTreasure Island and the Venetian Hotels dominate this corner. The expensive but sedate Wynn Hotel is also at this corner. The Venetian Hotel has "canals" both in front of the hotel and inside the shopping complex. Treasure Island is famous for its nightly "Sirens" show with pirate ships in a lagoon in front of the hotel. Next to Treasure Island is the Mirage with its volcano show. The two hotels are connected by a free monorail. The Wynn Hotel has its waterfalls in front and an impressive lobby inside. Flamingo Avenue and Las Vegas BoulevardThis corner is dominated by the Bellagio fountains with its spectacular water shows. Caesars Palace, Bourbon Street and Bally's are also at this corner. Our personal favorite is the new Paris Hotel next to Bally's, which is connected by a store lined hallway. Be sure to take a ride to the top of the Eiffel Tower at the Paris Hotel. Caesars Palace is a sprawling hotel with the popular Forum Shops. Tropicana Avenue and Las Vegas BoulevardThis corner is dominated by the New York New York Hotel with its simulated New York City skyline including the Statue of Liberty. You will also find the Excalibur, MGM with its Lion Habitat and Tropicana Hotel at this corner. From the Excalibur Hotel you can hop on a free monorail and visit the Luxor, with its black pyramid shape, and Mandalay Bay Hotel. Getting AroundThere are many ways to travel along Las Vegas Boulevard, but some words of advice are needed. First, the Las Vegas Monorail system that connects the MGM Hotel to the Sahara is fast but inconvenient. The monorail is located behind the hotels and is often a long walk to the hotel lobby. Several bus systems serve Las Vegas Boulevard. The fares are cheap - $2 one way and $5 for all day - but travel is often slow because Las Vegas Boulevard is normally congested. For information about buses and monorails look at Bus-Monorail on the left side menu. You can walk along Las Vegas Boulevard and see all the hotels and attractions. However it can be a long and weary walk especially during the hot summer. Finally, there are taxis. For the short rides you normally take along Las Vegas Boulevard, taxis are a good choice if you are in a hurry or want to pamper yourself. The best way to see Las Vegas is to stay at one of the Action Corners and take a bus or taxi to the other Action Corners where you can walk around. |
