There are dozens of hotels from major chains within 10 minutes of the airport. You can get to these hotels by taxi, shuttles or courtesy buses offered by many hotels.

Choosing a hotel depends on your plans. If you are visiting Washington DC or its nearby suburbs like Arlington or Alexandra do not select a hotel near the airport.

It is a 30 minute non-rush hour trip to Washington DC, Arlington and Alexandria. During rush hour the trip length can double.

A popular business destination near Dulles Airport is Tysons Corner. While it is only a 15 minute drive from Dulles, we recommend staying at one of the many hotels in Tysons Corner if you have business there.

Finding a Hotel Near Dulles Airport

When choosing a hotel, first pick your favorite chain. These major chains have a hotel near Dulles Airport: Comfort Inn, Days Inn, Embassy Suites, Hampton Inn, Hilton, Holiday Inn, Hyatt and Marriott.

Next pick an area. We recommend these places in Virginia: Herndon, Sterling and Reston.

Herndon and Sterling hotels are closest to the airport. However, we suggest riding a few minutes longer and staying at a Reston hotel.

Reston is a famous planned community with well designed shopping, restaurant and recreational areas.

Our favorite place is Reston Town Center, which has a mix of shops, restaurants and office buildings.

If you are on a business trip, get a hotel near your destination. Traffic in the Washington DC is often bad and the road system confusing.

Our final advice. If you stay near Dulles Airport take a break for a couple hours and visit the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. This new Smithsonian museum if filled with airplanes and the Enterprise Space Shuttle.
